MA in Architecture, Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (2018)
Although an architect by training, El Hayek’s style shies away from urban landscapes or representation of space, to focus on the raw emotions of the inner self. Her work brings these human emotions to life in vibrant abstract portraits. In her latest series of drawings The Archetypes of Jung, the artist derives inspiration from her readings of Carl Jung known as the father of analytical psychology and offers a personal interpretation of his famed twelve archetypes. Jung believed that mankind has common instinct of imagination and action, and that the human psyche possesses a common substratum transcending all differences in culture and consciousness. He calls this phenomenon the “collective unconscious”. The subjects in her work depict these raw and unrefined representations of human psychological features recurring through the history of mankind.
